Specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery

Dr. Scott Berta is the Founding Director of the Berta Spine Institute. With graduate degrees from Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, and Jefferson Medical College, this Stanford and UC San Diego trained neurosurgeon specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery.

At UCSD, Dr. Berta worked on hundreds of spine cases with the President of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. Following his spine fellowship and completion of neurosurgery residency at Stanford University, he spent one year as an Attending at a Level I trauma center in the Miami area where his neurosurgical techniques led him to be featured on over one hundred television news stations including CNN and USA Today. Dr. Berta has since moved his clinical practice back to Northern California.

Prior to his clinical training and medical practice, Dr. Berta devoted his professional life to pharmaceutical and gene therapy research and development. He holds multiple patents from his basic science research and is widely published in the peer reviewed literature. Today, he continues to innovate, now in the surgical field. He is founder of Spring Back Inc., a medical device company, and is closely involved with a number of early stage ventures based in the Bay Area.
